No. 6 Tritons sweep Knights

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University softball team dropped a pair of games against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent No. 6 University of Missouri-St. Louis at Knights Field on Saturday.  Ally Foster recorded the only run for the Knights in game one's 2-1 decision. Missouri-St. Louis scratched across a pair of unearned runs in game two and turned back the home standing Knights 2-0.

Foster nearly won the opener for the Knights single-handedly. Leading off in the bottom of the first, Foster watched two balls and fouled one off before slamming Hannah Perryman's pitch over the left center field fence.  No stranger to the home run jog around the bases, she jumped on home plate with her team surrounding her and put Bellarmine ahead 1-0 against the top ranked UMSL.

Then, Foster, who got the start in the circle, took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. After striking out Reagan Osborn to open the last inning, the storybook finish came crashing down for Foster and the Knights. Erin Walker crushed a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left and Sara Kern followed by connecting on a 2-2 pitch for a solo shot to right center as the Tritons rallied for a 2-1 victory.

The game was a classic pitchers' duel with Perryman striking out 15 Bellarmine batters and Foster recording 14 "K"s and surrendering just two hits.

The Knights tallied just three hits, with Foster being walked three times after smacking her 17th homer of the season, to set a new single season Bellarmine record. Olivia Russell was the only other Bellarmine batter to get a hit, going 2-for-2 including a double to left center in the bottom of the sixth.

The Tritons carried their momentum into the second game, capitalizing on Bellarmine errors to plate single runs in the second and third innings. The Knights managed just four hits, and stranded eight baserunners as Perryman again pitched another gem for the Tritons. The senior lefthander recorded her 40th win in the circle on the season.

Ely led Bellarmine going 2-for-3 at the plate.  Megan Bretz and Russell tallied the other two hits for the Knights.  Foster, pitching only three innings in the second game with Madeline Kurtz stepping in for the remainder, was saddled with both losses on the day.
