Knights men's soccer defeated by Hawks

QUINCY, Ill. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team scored first, but Quincy responded with three unanswered goals in a 3-1 victory Sunday over the visiting Knights in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Junior midfielder Callum Southern scored his first goal of the season for Bellarmine (2-4-1, 1-3 GLVC) in the eighth minute, converting off an assist from sophomore midfielder Magnus Bertilsson. The Knights almost made it 2-0, but Bertilsson's near-miss went off the post.

Quincy (3-2-1, 1-2-1) followed with the next three goals. The Hawks tied it in the 18th minute on a score by Taylor Reis and went ahead in the 40th minute on a goal by Justin Armfield. After halftime, David Geerling added an insurance goal in the 71st minute.

Bellarmine had a 13-12 advantage in shots, but 10 of Quincy's were on goal to four for the Knights.

Bellarmine hosts Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside next weekend.
