LIBERTY, Mo. — The visiting Bellarmine University women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with William Jewell on Sunday in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Senior goalkeeper
Taylor Smith and the defense posted their seventh shutout for the Knights (5-3-4, 4-3-4 GLVC). William Jewell (6-5-3, 4-4-3) became the fifth team to blank Bellarmine, which engaged in its seventh overtime affair of the season.
"We're a little disappointed not to get a win today, but I'm sure William Jewell feels the same way," Bellarmine Coach
Chris Tinius said. "That was another hard-fought game and quite honestly a game that we might have struggled to keep a result in a month ago. This weekend was another step forward with a win and a tie, so while we wanted more today we are still happy."
While it didn't score, Bellarmine created the majority of chances in the match. The Knights finished with a 14-5 advantage in shots, including 9-2 in shots on goal. Bellarmine also had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Bellarmine accounted for all four of the shots in the extra sessions.
"Our attack is starting to look better, and we keep finding good spaces," Tinius said. "We keep having more people that want to attack, but we are still searching for people that consistently want to score. Those are two different things. We have to keep working on ways to not just keep the ball but actually get in behind the other team."
Bellarmine returns home to host Rockhurst on Friday and Drury on Sunday. The latter is Senior Day and represents the team's final regular-season match at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
