LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine volleyball team knocked off Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Drury University in straight sets (25-21, 26-24, 25-22) on Friday night in Knights Hall.
The Knights got 19 kills from senior
Margaret Horihan, who hit .362 on the night, while
Hayden Dailey and
Katie Adams added nine apiece for BU.
Although all three sets were tightly contested, the host Knights led the entire match. Drury pushed Bellarmine to 26-24 in the second frame, but the Panthers never held a set a point.
The Bellarmine offense hummed to a .267 hitting percentage as setter
Allie Muha dished out 37 assists, and the Knights totaled 54 kills to just 40 for the Panthers.
Defensively, the Knights recorded only three team blocks, but three different players recorded double digit digs, led by
Jordyn Kuchenbrod with 28.
Bentley Mara and Sarah Kite paced the Panther offense with 12 kills each as Drury swung at a .185 clip in the match.
Bellarmine improves to 14-3 on the year and rose to a tie for second in the GLVC East with a 5-3 record. Drury slipped to 14-4 and dropped into second in the West Division with a 6-3 league mark.
The Knights host the new West Division leader—Rockhurst—in a 3 p.m. match tomorrow.
