ST. CHARLES, Mo.—The Bellarmine University field hockey team fell 4-0 to No. 9 Lindenwood in the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference postseason tournament on Friday at Hunter Stadium.
The host and second-seeded Lions registered two goals in each half as they outshot the Knights 20-7 on the game.
Lindenwood's Bridget Hoogendijk recorded a hat trick with Noor Fons adding the fourth goal for the Lions.
Bellarmine got two shots on frame, but
Lillie Nitzken's and
Mandi Isom's attempts were rejected by Lindenwood goalies Skylar Starbeck and MacKenzie Litterst.
Lindenwood's scoring came in quick bursts. In the first half, the Lions scored twice in a span of 1:35 with goals coming in the 16
th and 17 minutes. Then in the second period, Lindenwood wedged its two goals in just 64 seconds of game time.
The Knights, who fell to 8-11 on the season, will square off against Newberry in the third place game on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. (ET). The Wolves dropped a 2-1 decision to top-seeded Limestone in the other semifinal game.
The championship game between Lindenwood and Limestone is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start on Sunday.
