KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — "Bernedo to Linscott" is practically playing on a loop.
On Sunday at Truman State, junior forward
Tomas Bernedo twice assisted to sophomore midfielder
Micah Linscott on goals as the Bellarmine University men's soccer team defeated the Bulldogs 2-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Linscott boosted his team-high goal total to seven for Bellarmine (7-5-1, 6-3-1 GLVC) while Bernedo spiked his team-best assist total to six. As the numbers suggest, and as epitomized against Truman State (3-6-4, 1-6-3), the duo have exhibited great chemistry in the attacking third as the season has progressed.
It's one of the reasons why Bellarmine has surged to five victories over its last six matches. Another is the Knights' improving defense, which allowed Truman State a single shot on goal and only six total. In fact, Bellarmine's defense yielded a single shot on frame in the last two games while raising its shutout total to five.
The first connection between Bernedo and Linscott came in the 26th minute. Bernedo made a pass into the box for a streaking Linscott, who slotted a shot inside the far post for a 1-0 lead.
That was the score at halftime. In the second half, Bernedo targeted Linscott again in the 69th minute. The result was a breakaway opportunity, which Linscott calmly converted for a valuable insurance goal.
Bellarmine finished with a 15-6 advantage in shots, including 6-1 on goal.
The Knights will play their final three regular-season games at home. They lead off Friday with William Jewell.
