NEW ALBANY, Ind. — The Bellarmine University men's tennis team finished the fall portion of its schedule in strong fashion as the visiting Knights defeated Indiana University Southeast 6-3 on Monday.
Bellarmine (1-2) captured two doubles victories and won four singles matches against IU Southeast (1-2). Freshman
Caleb Buckman and sophomores
Sam Rueff and
Joseph Naville secured two wins apiece for the Knights, while junior
Andrew Jones and senior
L.J. Allara chipped in one apiece.
Bellarmine gained a 2-1 lead after doubles action following 8-6 victories by Buckman and Rueff at No. 1 and Naville and Allara at No. 3. Buckman (No. 1), Rueff (No. 2), Jones (No. 4) and Naville (No. 5) earned singles wins for Bellarmine.
"It was a great match to end the fall on," Bellarmine Coach
Tyler Worley said. "We have been working extremely hard in practice, and this was great redemption for our (5-4) loss (to IUS) last year. I am also very happy that
L.J. Allara got a win for his last match before he graduates early, and
Andrew Jones got a win before he takes next semester off to focus on an internship he couldn't turn down and one we are very happy he has the opportunity to pursue. This job is a lot of fun when you see improvement in your team, and I saw a lot of that today."
