LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's tennis team was edged 3-4 by Martin Methodist on Saturday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
Freshman
Caleb Buckman earned a victory at No. 1 singles over NAIA All-American Jesus Quesada for the Knights (0-2). Buckman won the first set 6-4. Quesada was winning the second set 2-1 when he retired. Bellarmine junior
Andrew Jones also won in straight sets at No. 5 singles over Brad Prada.
The teams split singles play, but Martin Methodist (1-0) won at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to gain the doubles point, and ultimately claim the narrow victory.
"I took a lot of good away from our match today as we took another big step," Bellarmine Coach
Tyler Worley said. "This was the most improvement I have seen between two matches, and we were as close as could be to turning that improvement into the win."
Bellarmine plays next weekend in the Louisville Invitational.
