SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—The Bellarmine softball team was swept by Drury in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Thompson Field. The Knights dropped the opener 3-1 and fell 10-0 in five innings in game two.
Game one was decided by one swing of the bat as Drury pinch hitter Kelley Conway connected for a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie.
The Knights came back with a run in top of the seventh when they recorded two of their four hits.
Ciara Incorvati and
Katie Stamper singled and a
Samantha Smith sacrifice fly drove in the Knights' only run of the day as pinch runner
Paige Werner scored.
The second game was all Panthers with a 7-run fourth inning delivering the knockout blow to Bellarmine. Drury banged out six hits in the frame and they were helped along by a pair of Bellarmine errors as the hosts took a 10-0 lead.
The Knights managed just two hits in the second game with
Lillie Nitzken and
Natalie Magnus recording one apiece.
Bellarmine falls to 14-26 overall and 5-17 in GLVC play. The Panthers improve to 18-22 and 9-15 in league play.
The Knights are back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader at Rockhurst. Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. (EDT).
