LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University's
Eddie Mathis is a consensus first-team All-Midwest Region starting pitcher after receiving his latest acknowledgement from the American Baseball Coaches Association.
In addition to his ABCA accolade, the junior left-hander reaped first-team All-Region notice from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association. The native of Pewee Valley, Kentucky, was a second-team selection last season by all three organizations.
Mathis was recognized as the GLVC Pitcher of the Year and earned first-team All-GLVC laurels. The southpaw went 7-2 with a 2.71 ERA and 87 strikeouts against 14 walks in 83.0 innings pitched. He helped guide the Knights to a program-record 38 wins and their second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
