LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's basketball team could never shake out of a shooting cold spell in suffering a 65-49 loss to Truman State in Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Saturday in Knights Hall.
Bellarmine (8-5, 2-3 GLVC) had season lows in field-goal percentage (24.6) and field goals made (17) against the Bulldogs (14-2, 5-1). The Knights didn't have a double-figure scorer, as senior center
Liza Tibbs led the team with nine points. She also had seven rebounds and three blocks.
Bellarmine did a commendable job taking care of the basketball, recording a season-low nine turnovers, but the Knights' shooting woes also led to a season-low nine assists. Truman State didn't have an outstanding shooting effort either at 40.4 percent, but the Bulldogs did sink half of their 18 3-point attempts and built a big second-half cushion.
With both teams struggling offensively, Bellarmine gained a 12-10 lead after one quarter, but Truman State canned five 3-pointers in the second period to gain a 27-21 halftime advantage. The Knights' shooting funk continued in the second half, and the Bulldogs capitalized as Rachel Edmundson hit a 3-pointer for a 14-point lead late in the third quarter.
Truman State led by as many as 20 in the fourth period. Edmundson paced the Bulldogs with 13 points, Sloane Totta added 12 and Maddie Re chipped in 11.
Bellarmine plays Thursday at William Jewell and Saturday at Rockhurst.
