LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It didn't take long for the No. 1 Knights to assert their dominance as they rolled to a 91-60 victory over Missouri S&T in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest in Knights Hall on Saturday afternoon.
Bellarmine's
Parker Chitty drained a 3-pointer as the shot clock was winding down to give the Knights a 10-point lead just six minutes into the game, and the visiting Miners never trimmed the deficit to single digits the rest of the way.
"That was a great day for us," said Bellarmine Coach
Scott Davenport. "I thought the first 12 minutes of the game we set the tone and played tremendous."
With the early lead, Davenport was able to utilize his entire bench, and no one played more than 20 minutes for the Knights as they cruised to a 67th straight victory at home.
After taking a 50-28 lead into the locker room at halftime, the Knights opened with a 21-5 run to start the second period and established the biggest cushion of the game at 71-33 with 13:46 remaining. From there, Bellarmine cruised to a final victory margin of 31 to improve to 18-0 on the season and 9-0 in conference play.
The Knights finished shooting 58.5 percent from the field while holding Missouri S&T to just 33.8 percent. Bellarmine had a strong 3-point shooting game as well, drilling eight of 14 attempts for 57.1 percent. The Miners matched Bellarmine's eight treys, but they fired 26 attempts from beyond the arc for a success rate of just 30.8 percent.
Adam Eberhard and
Alex Cook each scored 18 points to share game-high honors as 14 of Bellarmine's 15 players hit the scoring column. Cook was particularly efficient, making all six of his shots from the floor and converting all five free throws he attempted. Eberhard, meanwhile, added six rebounds, two assists and three blocked shots to his stat line.
Tyler Jenkins was the only other Knight to reach double digits, totaling 10 points and knocking down two of his three triples.
Ben Weyer, meanwhile, hauled in eight rebounds and scored nine points while duplicating Jenkins' 2-for-3 performance on triples.
Daniel Ramser dished out five of BU's 20 assists, and
Dylan Penn and Chris Palamobizio had solid outings in their limited minutes. Penn scored five points and handed out three assists in 14 minutes of action, and Palombizio scored four points and wrangled four boards in just 10 minutes of court time.
Jalen Myers was the top scorer and rebounder for Missouri S&T, which fell to 3-14 and 1-8 in league play. Myers grabbed 10 rebounds for the Miners and completed the double-double by adding 14 points.
The Knights now get a bit of a rest before hosting Southern Indiana on Saturday, Feb. 2 in an 8 p.m. game.
