LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University senior left-hander
Eddie Mathis, senior outfielder
Zac Wiley and junior left-hander
Shane Barringer were each recognized in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's "College Preview Issue."
In its analysis of the Division II Midwest Region, the publication tabbed Mathis as a preseason All-American, Wiley as a "Player to Watch" and Barringer as a "Newcomer to Watch."
Mathis is the reigning Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year, and the southpaw was a consensus first-team All-Midwest Region pick last season after going 7-2 with a 2.71 ERA with 87 strikeouts against 14 walks in 83 innings pitched.
Like Mathis, Wiley earned first-team All-GLVC accolades last season and he was also a second-team All-Midwest Region selection by the D2CCA after batting .348 with nine homers, 17 doubles, 47 RBIs and 39 runs scored.
Barringer transferred to Bellarmine from Division I Siena, where he made six appearances last season and seven as a freshman.
Bellarmine is coming off consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Knights won a program-record 38 games last season and have been selected as the preseason favorite to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference by the league's coaches and the Midwest Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
