INDIANAPOLIS — Freshman
Zach Larue placed eighth at 133 in leading the Bellarmine University wrestling team over the weekend at the 41st Annual Midwest Classic.
Bellarmine improved nine spots from last season in the prestigious event after placing 23rd out of 37 teams while compiling 27.5 points. McKendree (131.5), a GLVC counterpart of the Knights, won the team title while Central Oklahoma (113), Tiffin (104), Maryville (79.5), another GLVC squad, and Adams State (74) rounded out the top five.
After dropping his first match, Larue proceeded to win four straight, the last three via fall capped by a pin over 12th-ranked Ana Abduljelil of UIndy.
Registering two victories apiece for Bellarmine were senior
Gage Branson (149), freshman
Devan Hendricks (157) and sophomore
Gavin Grime (184).
Notching one win each for the Knights were sophomore
Brandon Lucas (125), freshman
Sam Glassco (141), junior
Eric Beck (165), senior
Andy Dobben (174) and junior
Brett Bryant (197).
