Baseball alum Warner earns Double-A All-Star nod

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Former Bellarmine University pitcher Austin Warner has been named a Texas League All-Star in the minor leagues.

Warner, a standout left-hander for the Knights from 2013-16, pitches for the Springfield Cardinals, the Double-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Louisville native will compete for the North Division in the Texas League All-Star game on June 25 at ONEOK Field in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

This is the second minor league All-Star nod for Warner, who was named a 2018 Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star for the High-A Palm Beach Cardinals.

On the heels of his All-Star acknowledgement, Warner on Monday was honored as the Texas League Pitcher of the Week for June 10-16. The Trinity (Ky.) High School product went 2-0 with a 2.21 ERA in two starts while striking out 16 over 12.2 innings.

On the season, the southpaw is 4-5 in 13 starts while carrying a 3.77 ERA and striking out a league-high 81 batters in 76.1 innings pitched. According to the Springfield Cardinals' website, Warner has been particularly splendid of late, posting a 2.99 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 45.1 innings pitched over his last seven starts.

Warner was a two-time All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection at Bellarmine and finished his four-year career with a 15-12 record in 54 appearances, including 38 starts, while striking out 211 hitters in 227.1 innings pitched. The southpaw tossed six complete games, three of which went for shutouts. He fired Bellarmine's most recent no-hitter in a 4-0 victory over Saint Joseph's in April of 2015.
