LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 21 Bellarmine University men's soccer team scored early in the second half but McKendree answered late as the teams played to a 1-1 tie Friday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Junior defender
Eddie Williamson scored off an assist from junior midfielder
Collin Rose for Bellarmine (3-0-2, 0-0-2 GLVC), which played to a stalemate for a second straight game. The Knights pushed their unbeaten streak to 14 dating back to last season.
After a scoreless first half, Williamson got Bellarmine on the board shortly after the intermission as he pounded in a header off a free kick from Rose for a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute.
McKendree (1-1-2, 0-0-2) also had an impressive connection in delivering the equalizer. Rulo Arteaga headed in a pass from Ryan Herling to knot the score at 1-all in the 81st minute.
Less than two minutes later, Williamson was inches away from tallying a go-ahead goal as his header caromed off the post. Neither the Knights nor Bearcats would score again in regulation time or two overtimes.
Bellarmine had a considerable advantage in overall shots at 18-6 and shots on goal at 9-3. The Knights had eight attempts in both the first and second halves and took two in the first overtime. McKendree didn't attempt a shot in the first half but had five in the second and one in the second overtime session.
Bellarmine also had an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Bellarmine hosts Southern Indiana at 2:30 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
