Baseball's Pfaadt recognized in upper tier of top 50 prospects of Cape Cod League

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University rising junior right-hander Brandon Pfaadt was named in the upper half of the website D1Baseball's list of the top 50 prospects from the esteemed Cape Cod Baseball League eligible for the 2020 and 2021 Major League Baseball drafts.

Pfaadt was cited as the 24th-best MLB prospect from the Cape after being a member this past summer of the Wareham Gatemen. The Louisville native was the only player from Division II acknowledged in the top 50.

In the article, D1Baseball noted of its evaluation that "rankings are based both on what we saw in the Cape this summer and how the prospects have performed in previous spring and summer seasons. Our rankings don't consider several areas that professional organizations spend a great deal of time and resources gathering; signability, personality/psychology results, medical information, to name just a few."

Pfaadt appeared in nine regular-season games for Wareham and went 2-1 with a 2.81 ERA along with 34 strikeouts against eight walks in 32.0 innings pitched. Opposing hitters batted a paltry .171 against the Trinity (Ky.) High School product.

Pfaadt immediately made a name for himself in the Cape, firing 12.0 scoreless innings while allowing only two hits and racking up 16 strikeouts over his first three outings. He closed the regular season by retiring all nine batters he faced, including six strikeouts, in 3.0 perfect innings of relief while recording a save.

Pfaadt was previously recognized by Perfect Game in its season recap of the Cape, acknowledging him in a section of the article titled "Outstanding Pitching Performances" among 10 hurlers who tossed a minimum of 25 innings in CCBL action.

In his sophomore season at Bellarmine, Pfaadt made a team-high 22 appearances and went 3-3 with three saves and a 4.03 ERA while striking out 50 over 38.0 innings pitched.
