JACKSON, Tenn. — The No. 17 Bellarmine University baseball team captured both games of a Saturday doubleheader at Fesmire Field as the Knights followed an 8-4 victory over Union with a 4-2 win in 10 innings.
Bellarmine (3-3) completed a three-game sweep of Union (3-5) after also winning Friday's opener. The Knights notched two of the victories in 10-inning affairs.
Game 1: Bellarmine 8, Union 4 (

Bellarmine had steady run production in Saturday's opener, scoring two runs apiece in the second, third and fifth innings and adding one run each in the seventh and eighth frames.
The Knights collected 11 hits. Junior left fielder

Robert Sproul and freshman second baseman
Dylan Byerly tallied two hits apiece. Higgins and senior catcher
Chris Gambert both racked up three RBIs.

Clayton Mehlbauer had an RBI double and senior designated hitter
Deylen Miley added an RBI single as Bellarmine took a 2-0 lead in the second. The Knights doubled their advantage in the third after Gambert launched his second home run of the season, a two-run blast that made it 4-0.
Higgins and Gambert both lofted sacrifice flies in the fifth for a 6-2 lead. Byerly led off the seventh with a double and scored on Higgins' single, and Higgins tacked on another RBI single in the eighth.
Senior left-hander
Shane Barringer (1-1) earned the win after allowing two earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched. Senior right-hander
Jacob Nagel had three strikeouts and didn't allow an earned run in 2.2 innings of relief.
Game 2: Bellarmine 4, Union 2 (

Miley started the finale and allowed two runs with five strikeouts over 5.0 innings pitched. Sophomore right-hander
Reece Davis (1-1) followed with 5.0 scoreless innings of relief. In by far the longest outing of his career — 2.2 innings was his previous high — Davis fanned six while allowing two hits.
Bellarmine scored twice in the 10th to break a 2-all tie. Junior catcher
Alex Cleverly led off with a walk and eventually scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Byerly. Junior right fielder
Jacob Mulcahy followed with a double and, after a pitching change, he scored on a Higgins two-bagger.
Davis hit the first batter in the bottom half but followed by inducing three straight fly outs. He and Miley allowed only four total hits.
Mulcahy and Byerly had two hits apiece for the Knights, who host Hillsdale in a three-game series next weekend.
