YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — The visiting Bellarmine University men's tennis team edged Young Harris 4-3 on Friday.
The Knights (5-3) secured the doubles point against Young Harris (5-4) after junior
Evan Bottorff and freshman
Paul Reynolds defeated Carlos Padilla and Herman Ronnberg 6-1 at No. 1, and sophomore
Michael Staff and freshman
Emil B. Berglund topped Ignacio Ascarrunz and John Brett 6-2 at No. 2.
Bellarmine built a 3-0 lead after Reynolds, at No. 3, and Berglund, at No. 2, won their singles matches in straight sets over Alex Schiltz and Andres Padilla. Young Harris registered the next win, but the Knights clinched the match when Staff knocked off Ronnberg 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4.
"The conditions were ugly but the guys fought hard and were mentally tough, and that is what made all the difference," Knights Coach
Will Davis said.
Bellarmine will play Saturday at Division I Liberty, its future colleague in the ASUN.
