LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's basketball team could never quite get past a slow start Sunday as the Knights fell 81-52 to Florida Gulf Coast in ASUN play in Freedom Hall.
Junior forward
Sheniqua Coatney hit 5-of-6 shots in scoring a team-high 12 points for Bellarmine (0-9, 0-4 ASUN), while freshman forward
Lucy Robertson added 11 points in 10 minutes behind 9-for-10 shooting from the free-throw line. Freshman guard
Hannah Farrell secured seven rebounds for the Knights.
Kierstan Bell led FGCU (9-2, 2-0) with 24 points on 10-for-20 shooting and had eight rebounds. Tishara Morehouse notched 19 points for the Eagles, who sank 11 of their 35 3-point attempts and scored 31 points off 22 Knights turnovers.
Senior guard
Breia Torrens spotted Coatney for a layup on Bellarmine's first possession, but that would be the Knights' lone made field goal of the first quarter, as they missed their next 13 shots in the period. Florida Gulf Coast built a 22-4 lead heading into the second stanza and never looked back.
Bellarmine will play Saturday and Sunday at Stetson. Both contests tip off at 1 p.m. (ET).
