LOUISVILLE, Ky. — 84 percent.

Let that sink in. 84 percent.

On Saturday night in Freedom Hall, the Bellarmine University men's basketball team shot an unconscious — and unimaginable — 84 percent in the second half in completing an epic comeback from 20 points down in an astonishing 76-65 victory over ASUN counterpart Stetson.

Bellarmine (7-5, 4-2 ASUN) registered its second straight sweep and fourth consecutive win in ASUN action after hitting an eye-popping 21-of-25 shots in the second half against Stetson (4-8, 2-4).

"I've never coached a team that shot 25 times and made 21," Knights Coach Scott Davenport said. "All you can do is clap and celebrate for them. I mean, wow!"

When Davenport informed the Knights of their second-half shooting total in the locker room, junior guard Pedro Bradshaw said, "We all looked around and couldn't believe it."

It defied belief, and maybe explanation. It was as if Bellarmine made up, and then some, for the slew of close-range shots it missed in a dreadful first half. Stetson, meanwhile, seemed as if it couldn't miss from long range behind Josh Smith and Chase Johnston, who combined for 46 points and teamed up to drill 8-of-13 3-pointers. The Hatters took a commanding 42-26 lead into the intermission.

"You can imagine how upset I was with the first half," Davenport said. "We cheated ourselves, and as a coach I can't let them cheat themselves from being the best they possibly can be. They deserve so much credit for their response. You don't do what we just did without incredible young men and managing each four-minute war."

Less than one minute into the second half, Bellarmine trailed by 20. Two minutes later, the Knights were behind by 14 after hitting three straight shots. After four more minutes passed, Bellarmine was within eight after a Bradshaw 3-pointer. Once the next five minutes elapsed, the Knights had surged to within one on a Bradshaw and-one.

Bellarmine wrangled the lead with 6:48 left at 57-55 on a 3-pointer by Bradshaw. That basket marked the third of 11 straight shots the Knights would make to close the game. Bellarmine pulled away behind a 13-3 run that fed into the final minute.

"We never feel like we're out of a fight," junior guard Dylan Penn said, "because we're going to fight until the very end."

Bradshaw racked up a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds and had four assists. Senior forward Ethan Claycomb, the reigning ASUN Player of the Week, tallied a team-high 19 points and had four assists, while senior guard CJ Fleming contributed 14 points and three assists and Penn added 12 points, five rebounds and three assists as the Knights erased a double-digit second-half deficit for the second night in a row.

"Perseverance," Bradshaw said. "We fight. That was huge for us this weekend."

Bellarmine plays Friday and Saturday at Kennesaw State.

"I hope they realize they can do anything if they answer that challenge," Davenport said, "and I'm talking on and off the court."
