Men's tennis takes down former GLVC rival USI

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's tennis team took down a former GLVC rival on Saturday, defeating Southern Indiana 6-1 in the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.

Bellarmine (1-4) swept the doubles matches and won five of the six singles contests against the Screaming Eagles.

Sophomore Cole Groetsch and junior Evan Bottorff notched a 6-3 win over Yahor Bahdanovich and Marvin Kromer at No. 1 doubles, senior Ian Deiters and freshman Paul Reynolds knocked off Spencer Blandford and Lucas Sakamaki 7-5 at No. 2, and freshman Emil B. Berglund and sophomore Michael Staff downed Kooper Falkenstein and Preston Cameron 6-4 at No. 3.

In singles play, Groetsch (No. 1), Berglund (No. 2), Bottorff (No. 3) and Reynolds (No. 4) won in straight sets while junior Sam Rueff was victorious in a tiebreaker at No. 6.

"A great first win of the season," Knights Coach Will Davis said. "To beat a team that we were 0-9 against in the most recent meetings and had only won seven total individual matches against is a great feat. We look to build and continue to grow from this experience for the next match against Louisville on Wednesday."
