LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's tennis team took down a former GLVC rival on Saturday, defeating Southern Indiana 6-1 in the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
Bellarmine (1-4) swept the doubles matches and won five of the six singles contests against the Screaming Eagles.
Sophomore
Cole Groetsch and junior
Evan Bottorff notched a 6-3 win over Yahor Bahdanovich and Marvin Kromer at No. 1 doubles, senior
Ian Deiters and freshman
Paul Reynolds knocked off Spencer Blandford and Lucas Sakamaki 7-5 at No. 2, and freshman
Emil B. Berglund and sophomore
Michael Staff downed Kooper Falkenstein and Preston Cameron 6-4 at No. 3.
In singles play, Groetsch (No. 1), Berglund (No. 2), Bottorff (No. 3) and Reynolds (No. 4) won in straight sets while junior
Sam Rueff was victorious in a tiebreaker at No. 6.
"A great first win of the season," Knights Coach
Will Davis said. "To beat a team that we were 0-9 against in the most recent meetings and had only won seven total individual matches against is a great feat. We look to build and continue to grow from this experience for the next match against Louisville on Wednesday."
