Knights fall to ASUN newcomer Jacksonville State

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine volleyball team fell in three sets for just the third time this season as Jacksonville State came into Knights Hall on Saturday afternoon and walked out with a 25-20, 25-16, 25-9 victory in an ASUN Conference match.

The Gamecocks are making their ASUN debut this season after competing in the Ohio Valley Conference previously.  Last year, JSU finished tied for first in the OVC going 15-1 in league play and 16-2 overall. This year, Jacksonville State is off to a 14-4 start including a 4-1 mark in the ASUN.

In today's match, the Gamecocks were in control from the outset and posted a 41-27 kills advantage, outhitting the Knights .385 to .095.

Kylie Quigley led the way for Jacksonville State and was the only player in the match to record double digit kills with 11 on just 19 swings.  Bailey Venard paced the Bellarmine offense today with seven kills while Bailey Roszman and Jayme Scott recorded five each.

Defensively, Bellarmine's Anna Lococo and JSU's Erin Carmichael shared match-high honors with 11 digs each.

Bellarmine falls to 5-11 overall and 1-4 in ASUN play.  The Knights host future ASUN foe Austin Peay on Tuesday at 6 p.m.  The Governors, who will join the AUN next year, are currently leading the OVC with a perfect 4-0 league record and are 10-6 overall.
