LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine volleyball team fell in straight sets (19-25, 17-25, 18-25) to the visiting Austin Peay Governors at Knights Hall on Tuesday night.
Currently sitting atop the Ohio Valley Conference standings at 4-0, APSU looked every bit the part of a league leader against the Knights, owning significant advantages up and down the stat sheet. Offensively, Austin Peay outhit the Knights .339 to .143 and owned a 50-32 edge in kills. Defensively, the Govs outdug Bellarmine 54-37 and held the upper hand in team blocks 6-1.
Brooke Moore paced the APSU offense and led all hitters with 14 kills, and the Louisville native just missed a double-double by coming up with nine digs. On the defensive side for the Governors, Kelsey Mead totaled 11 digs while four different players contributed two blocks.
Bellarmine's
Bailey Venard was the home team's kills leader with nine while
Seville Gates heated up in the final two sets and finished with eight kills and a .350 attack percentage.
Anna Lococo came up with 10 digs for the Knights.
The Governors are transitioning to the ASUN and will be league foes next season, but tonight's match was the final non-conference contest of the year for Bellarmine.
The Knights return to exclusively ASUN play this weekend in road games at Lipscomb on Friday and Central Arkansas on Sunday.
