LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Lipscomb scored two goals in the first half in defeating the Bellarmine University women's soccer team 2-0 on Thursday night in ASUN action at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
The contest marked the first in West Division play for the teams. Lipscomb (9-3-1, 4-1 ASUN, 1-0 West) jumped out to a multi-goal lead over Bellarmine (3-5-5, 1-4, 0-1) after scoring twice in a shade over 20 minutes.
The reigning ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, Shelby Craft has moved into the holding midfield and scored Lipscomb's first goal in the 12th minute with an exceptional strike from distance.
The Bisons found the net again in the 21st minute. Leading scorer Cami Rogers collected her fifth goal of the season in finishing off a nice combination with Allie Dunn and Emanuela Schurch.
Junior goalkeeper
Bailee Witt recorded six saves for Bellarmine, several in spectacular fashion against the ASUN preseason co-favorite Bisons.
Bellarmine held Lipscomb to a respectable 13 shots, but the Bisons were accurate with eight coming on goal. The Knights struggled to generate much offensively against a Lipscomb defense that racked up its eighth shutout. Bellarmine totaled three shots.
Bellarmine continues West Division play with a 2 p.m. (ET) contest Sunday at Jacksonville State.
