Wrestling heads to West Lafayette for Boilermaker Duals on Sunday

11/19/2021 9:51:00 AM

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Knights wrestling travels to West Lafayette this Sunday for the Boilermaker Duals hosted by Purdue University.

BU will not face No. 20 Purdue, but instead take on Duke (ACC), Brown (EIWA), and Northern Illinois (0-1, MAC).  Outside of NIU's loss to Rider, these will be the first duals for the Blue Devils and Bears.

The Knights are looking to bounce back after three losses at the Patriot Duals last weekend.

"There is plenty to grow and learn from," Knights Head Coach Ned Shuck said after last week's trip. "Our focus will be on improving individually in the positions we weren't sharp in.  We'll continue to make some lineup changes as the guys fight to earn their spots and make it clear they are the best at their weight."

Last weekend's matchups featured two wins for Cole Nance and Eric Beck.  They now each have three wins to lead the team, with Nance recording the only pin of the year against SIUE in the season opener.

Duke began its 2021-22 slate with The Battle at The Citadel and a third place finish out of six teams.  Brown opened its season with at the Binghamton Open where the Bears placed fifth out of 17 teams. NIU preceded its 20-14 loss at Rider with a strong showing at the Michigan State Open.

The Knights are in the middle of a stretch of four straight road matchups.

"We are excited to get back to work and are grateful for the next competition to be able to test ourselves again," Shuck said.

The Boilermaker Duals begin at 9:00 a.m. this Sunday with Bellarmine first taking on Duke.
