KENNESAW, Ga.—After a re-shuffling of the ASUN Conference volleyball schedule, the Bellarmine Knights found themselves playing the same opponent as last week—the Kennesaw State Owls.
This weekend the action is on the road, but unfortunately for the Knights, the results were the same as the defending ASUN Champions took the victory today to run their 2020-21 record to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference (all three matches were against Bellarmine).
Today's match was a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-16, 25-16) as the Owls used a 7-1 run midway through the first set to seize control and simply never took their foot off the accelerator.
Kennesaw State held significant advantages in nearly every facet of the match, holding Bellarmine to a negative hitting percentage while swinging at a .290 rate. Lauren Chastang and Emma Schurfranz each collected double-digit kills registering 16 and 12 respectively for KSU.
Three Knights chalked up five kills apiece to lead the Bellarmine attack with
Chrysanthi Stamatiou,
Julia Dailey and
Hannah Brown sharing team-high honors. Freshman setter
Kalli Mau handed out 16 assists for the Knights.
Defensively, KSU held a 12-5 team block advantage and outdug the Knights 44-34.
Bellarmine falls to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in league play.
The same two teams are in action tomorrow with first serve set for 1 p.m.
