LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University baseball team is set to host six games this week at Knights Field, which includes the squad's Division I home debut.

Bellarmine (0-3) will welcome Eastern Illinois (4-3) for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Tuesday before hosting Eastern Michigan (2-0) in a four-game series from Friday-Sunday, with single contests on Friday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) and a doubleheader Saturday (noon).

Bellarmine opened the season with a three-game series Feb. 20-21 at Louisville, which is ranked No. 1 by Perfect Game. Senior outfielder/designated hitter Chris Gambert hit .400 in the series and smacked a pair of doubles. Junior outfielder Matt Higgins launched the Knights' first D1 homer. Senior right-hander Anthony Ethington tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief in the opener.

Eastern Illinois took two of three in series against Nicholls State and Arkansas Little Rock, scoring 34 runs in the latter series. Trey Sweeney is off to a hot start hitting .360 with two homers, three doubles and 10 RBIs in seven games. Logan Eickhoff is batting .387. Fourteen different pitchers have made appearances in the early going for the Panthers, who were 8-6 in pandemic-shortened 2020.

Eastern Michigan opened the season last weekend with a two-game sweep at Alabama State, claiming 2-1 and 4-3 wins and getting off to a strong start after going 1-13 last year. Mark Kattula went 4-for-7 with three doubles over the two games.

Fans will be permitted to attend games, but access will be limited to spaces outside of roped-off areas. Bleacher seating will not be available. Fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for seating on the hill flanking Knights Field.
