LOUISVILLE, Ky.—It was nearly the same result, but the method of delivery was quite different.
Yesterday, the visiting Kent State Golden Flashes overwhelmed the host Bellarmine Knights with five first quarter goals in coasting to an 8-0 victory. Today at Trager Stadium, the Knights were able to keep the Golden Flash offense in check for most of the first half, but the visitors exploded for five second half goals to roll to a 7-0 victory.
The statistics show yet another dominating performance by the Golden Flashes, who outshot the Knights 38-3 and held a 15-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The score could have been even more one-sided had it not been for 18 saves by Bellarmine goalie
Breanna McWhorter and a defensive stop by
Grace Dukes. The 18 saves in a game by McWhorter is just one shy of the Bellarmine school record.
Kent State's seven goals came from six different players with Sydney Washburn collecting two for the Golden Flashes. The Knights got off just three shots on the day with
Amber Hofenk Jerembo firing two and
Cassidy Sweeney recording the other.
Kent State, which will be a conference foe for the Knights next season when Bellarmine field hockey joins the Mid-American Conference, improves to 3-1.
Bellarmine falls to 0-6 on the season and will play the remainder of its schedule on the road. That extended road trek begins next week when the Knights visit Oxford, Ohio to square off against Miami in games on Saturday and Sunday.
