LOUISVILLE, Ky.—For the third match in a row, the Bellarmine Knights will square off against the Lipscomb Bisons. This time, however, it will come with the season on the line as the action will be in the quarterfinal round of the ASUN Conference Championship.
The postseason tourney opens March 27 with quarterfinal matches played on campus sites before the "ASUN Final 4" comes together April 2 and 3 at Kennesaw State. Higher seeds will host the quarterfinal matches, and with Bellarmine coming in as a 4-seed and Lipscomb coming in as a 1-seed, that means the Knights will travel to Nashville on Saturday. Match time is 6 p.m. CDT (7 p.m. EDT).
Bellarmine (4-12, 3-9 ASUN) has a lot of experience playing the Bisons this year; in fact, 25 percent of the Knights' 16 matches have come against Lipscomb. Unfortunately, all four matches have gone the way of the Bisons, with Bellarmine taking just one set in the four contests.
Saturday's quarterfinal game come on the heels of a two-match series in Knights Hall this past week. In those contests, Lipscomb (14-2, 11-1) was led by freshman middle Meg Mersman, who was recognized as ASUN Defensive Player of the Week after chalking up 22 kills and 10 blocks against the Knights. For Bellarmine,
Bailey Roszman posted the most kills with 16 over the two matches while
Hannah Brown notched 13 kills with five blocks.
On the year, both
Abbie Oetting and
Chrysanthi Stamatiou have eclipsed the 100-kill plateau for Bellarmine with 123 and 118 respectively. Other statistical leaders for the Knights include
Karleigh Wilson, who has 243 digs and ranks fourth in the ASUN with a 4.05 digs per set average, and
Sam Rickert, whose 392 assists equate to an 8.52 per set average—eighth in the league.
