Knights close season with loss to Lipscomb in ASUN quarterfinals

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—The Bellarmine volleyball team saw its first season as a Division I member come to close Saturday night as the Knights fell to the host Lipscomb Bisons in the quarterfinals of the ASUN Conference Championship.

As the No. 1 seed in the North Division, Lipscomb earned hosting rights, so the fourth-seeded Knights traveled to Allen Arena for the match, which the Bisons won in straight sets 25-19, 25-18, 25-16.

Bellarmine finishes the season 4-13 with five of those losses coming to Lipscomb, which improved to 15-2 and advances to the ASUN semifinals in Kennesaw, Georgia where the Bisons will face North Florida.

In tonight's match, the league's highest-ranked offense continued to flex its muscle as Lipscomb cruised to a .361 hitting percentage while amassing 46 kills and seven service aces.  The Knights, meanwhile, hit just .176 with 34 kills and one ace.

Individually, Bellarmine's Hannah Brown had perhaps the best overall match, leading all hitters with 14 kills while swinging at a .423 clip.

Lipscomb's Megan Kuper and Samantha Rubal also turned in impressive hitting performances.  Kuper recorded 13 kills and a .367 attack percentage while Rubal rung up 11 kills on just 15 swings for a .667 average.  Defensively, libero Alyssa Zwolensky posted a match-high 14 digs for the Bisons.

With the end of the season, three Knights played in their final match at Bellarmine:  Abbie Oetting, Izzie Salameh and Karleigh Wilson.  Despite the team loss, all three went out with solid performances.  Oetting registered seven kills and hit .357 while Salameh tallied four kills and hit .375.  Wilson, the Bellarmine libero, notched a team-high nine digs in her final performance.
