Knights lacrosse to face No. 8 Notre Dame on Saturday

Louisville, Ky. - The Bellarmine Knights return to action on Saturday at 4 p.m. when they take on No. 8 Notre Dame on the road in South Bend, Ind.

Saturday's contest marks the sixth all-time between the Knights and Irish. Their last meeting was in 2016 when Notre Dame topped Bellarmine 11-6. The Irish lead the series 5-0.

Bellarmine (1-4) comes into this contest after dropping a 17-8 decision on Tuesday at Robert Morris.

Through their first five games of the season, freshman Kyle Playsted has led the way for the Knights with 12 points (7G/5A). Landon Trout has tallied 10 points (7G/3A) while James Whiteford has recorded seven points (2G/5A).

Jon Robbins and Eric Rubak have been the leaders on the defensive end for the Knights this season. Robbins has caused 13 turnovers and scooped up 15 ground balls while Rubak has recorded 23 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.

JC Higginbotham has been the Knights' top option in cage for three of their past four games, starting in the last two games against Delaware and Robert Morris. He has made 42 saves with a .429% save percentage through this point in the season. Ian Reilly started the first two games of the season and has recorded 11 saves with a .478% save percentage.

The faceoff dot has been one of the Knights' weak points this season, going 33-for-129 (24%) at the dot as a team. 

Notre Dame (1-0) comes into this contest after defeating Robert Morris 19-7 in their season-opener last week.

Pat Kavanagh tallied nine points (2G/7A) to lead the way for the Irish in the win. Quinn McCahon put up four points (3G/1A) and Kyle Gallagher went 13-for-15 (86%) at the faceoff dot and added two assists.

Kyle Thornton caused three turnovers and scooped up two ground balls to lead the Irish defense while Liam Entenmann made 10 saves with a 67% save percentage to anchor the defense.
