BOONE, N.C.—Although the weather conditions were considerably better, the results were similar to yesterday's contest as the host Appalachian State Mountaineers took a 6-1 victory over the Bellarmine field hockey team today at Adcock Field.
The same two teams met yesterday in rainy conditions, and the Mountaineers dominated the Knights in winning 7-2. Today, the sun was out, but the Appalachian State turned in another convincing performance outshooting Bellarmine 35-3 and holding an 8-3 edge in penalty corners.
The Mountaineers (7-5) scored three goals each half while the Knights avoided the shutout by converting a penalty corner with just 20.9 seconds remaining in the game.
Teresa Schmidt inserted to
Kara Guess, who made the stop, and
Anna Crump smashed in her shot from just inside the circle.
As in yesterday's game, Meghan Smart and Veerle Van Heertum were ASU's offensive with each scoring two goals today.
Bellarmine goalie
Breanna McWhorter had another busy day, making 14 saves in just three quarters of action. The Louisville native has now racked up 96 saves on the season, which is the seventh-most in program history.
The Knights (0-10) will play just one game this coming week, facing the Longwood Lancers in a 9:30 a.m. contest on Saturday in Farmville, Virginia.
