LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Coach
Chris Tinius announced five additions to his large incoming recruiting class for the Bellarmine University women's soccer team.
Set to join the Knights are defender Brooklynn Allen of Lawrenceburg (Ind.) High School, goalkeeper Ingrid Sliper Langeteig of Norway, forward Hannah Longstreet of South Oldham (Ky.) High School and twin sisters and defenders Chloe and Lily Markey of Johns Creek (Ga.) High School.
Tinius had previously announced seven signees in Grace Barber, Kailyn Bridges, Ashlyn Fuller, Katie Gawrys, Avery Mahon, Alexa Orozco and Sidney Rigsby.
This is the program's first recruiting class as an active member of Division I. The Knights went 2-6-3 overall and 2-3-3 in the ASUN and were highly competitive in their inaugural season in D1, falling only once by more than one goal and carrying a goals-against average of 0.94 as their trademarks of team defense and organized play translated well.
"We want to introduce five newcomers to our soccer family that we have signed at various points throughout the spring," Tinius said. "With our season wrapped up, this seems like a good time to shift our concentration and officially welcome them aboard. We feel like we've added good soccer players, but our goal is always to add individuals that are academically sound and ready to serve as ambassadors for our university. From a soccer perspective, the first group of signings in this class was heavier in the midfield and attack. This group gives us a bit more positional balance."
Here's a look at the five newest signees:
Brooklynn Allen
Hometown:
Lawrenceburg, IN
Position: Defender
High School:
Lawrenceburg High School
Club Team:
Cincinnati Development Academy / Indiana Fire Juniors ECNL
Tinius on Allen: "We really enjoyed getting to know Brooklynn during the recruiting process and are excited that she is a Knight. Between an injury and then
COVID, she had a very unique journey, but we love her perspective on things. She has good size and athleticism that will be a good match for some of the attacking players we are facing and should be able to fit into a variety of systems depending on how we decide to configure our backline."
Ingrid Sliper Langeteig
Hometown:
Vestby, Norway
Position: Goalkeeper
High School:
Vestby Videregaaende Skole
Club Team:
Kolbotn IL
Tinius on Langeteig: "We are very excited to add Ingrid to our team. She is a
well-rounded goalkeeper that is solid technically and also comfortable with her feet. She has played a good level in Norway. We like that from a competition standpoint, but also just to add another perspective of soccer knowledge to our group. We've loved Ingrid's personality in our Zoom calls and her desire to come in and compete to get better."
Hannah Longstreet
Hometown:
Crestwood, KY
Position:
Forward
High School:
South Oldham
Club Team:
Racing Louisville Academy ECNL
Tinius on Longstreet: "Hannah is an athletic, hard-working player that
has a lot of potential to meet the increased physical and athletic demands that we are facing during our transition. She can really make an impact in wide spaces. She could play as a forward or even an attack-minded back. She also gives another true left-sided player. We are excited to have her on board."
Chloe Markey
Hometown:
Alpharetta, GA
Position:
Defender
High School:
Johns Creek High School
Club Team:
United Futbol Academy ECNL
Tinius on Chloe Markey: "Chloe is a hard-working defender that can mix things up centrally. She can provide ball winning and a grinder's mentality to your back line. She is not afraid to do some of the unsung work that helps teams be successful. We are excited to have to her joining our soccer family along with her twin sister Lily."
Lily Markey
Hometown:
Alpharetta, GA
Position:
Defender
High School:
Johns Creek High School
Club Team:
United Futbol Academy DA / United Futbol Academy ECNL
Tinius on Lily Markey: "Lily is a sturdy, versatile defender. She's a good athlete and shows nice comfort on the ball to help start your attack
from the wide back position. She is another well-rounded player that should be able to fit nicely with a variety of players around her. Her experience at two of the highest levels of youth soccer should have her prepared for the challenges of breaking into the college game and the transition we are going through."
