ATLANTA — The Bellarmine University baseball trio of senior third baseman
Josh Finerty, junior outfielder
Matt Higgins and freshman first baseman
Davis Crane has collected ASUN All-Conference accolades.
Finerty earned first-team ASUN All-Conference recognition, Higgins was acknowledged on the second team and Crane was a unanimous selection to the All-Freshmen Team.
Finerty was recognized twice Thursday by the league. In addition to the All-Conference notice, the Louisville native garnered ASUN All-Academic Team plaudits. The veteran corner infielder is batting .295 with five homers and 25 RBIs and is tied for sixth in the ASUN with 13 doubles, is ninth in hits with 54 and is tied for ninth in runs scored with 37. Finerty backed up a Preseason All-ASUN nod from Perfect Game, along the way receiving an ASUN Player of the Week acknowledgement. This is his second first-team All-Conference laurel after being the recipient of the honor in 2018 while in the GLVC.
In addition to being a consensus Division II All-American, Higgins was a first-team All-GLVC selection in 2019 before securing another All-Conference accolade this year from the ASUN. The Louisville native missed a month of the season due to injury and has still managed to tie for fourth in the league in home runs with nine. With 33 runs driven in, Higgins averages more than one RBI per game. He doesn't have enough plate appearances to be listed in the ASUN stats for batting average, but he'd be fourth at .350. Higgins has also clubbed seven doubles and scored 21 runs.
As his unanimous ASUN All-Freshmen Team recognition suggests, Crane was an impact player in his first season at Bellarmine. The Louisville native took control of the starting job at first base during conference play and became the team's cleanup hitter. Crane is batting .276 with five homers, four doubles, 14 runs scored and 15 RBIs. He homered twice in the final ASUN series against Lipscomb and added another round-tripper in a nonconference series against Youngstown State that capped the regular season.
North Florida's Alex Kachler was voted ASUN Player of the Year. Liberty took home the other four individual honors, for Pitcher of the Year (Trevor Delaite), Defensive Player of the Year (Cam Locklear), Freshman of the Year (Trey Gibson) and Coach of the Year (Scott Jackson).
