FARMVILLE, Va.—The Bellarmine field hockey team fell 6-0 to Longwood on Saturday afternoon in the Knights' official Mid-American Conference (MAC) debut.
The host Lancers scored early and took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. Longwood then kept the offensive pressure for the entire 60 minutes as they outshot the Knights 26-2 in the game and owned a 14-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Six difference Lancers scored for Longwood, which improves 5-3, 1-0 MAC.
Defensively, the Knights got seven saves from starting goalie
Breanna McWhorter with both
Danni Swallow (4 saves) and
Bella Thompson both seeing time in the cage. Also,
Alexa Rastigue made a pair of defensive saves for the Knights.
Bellarmine, which is playing its second season at the Division I level and is a new member in the MAC, returns to non-conference play tomorrow as the Knights take on Virginia Commonwealth.
