Knights complete epic comeback to turn back Hoyas 3-2

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Bellarmine Knights pulled out an epic comeback to defeat the Georgetown Hoyas in five sets to close their appearance in the University of Virginia round robin event on Saturday afternoon.

After dropping a pair of tight sets (23-25, 24-26) to fall behind 0-2, Bellarmine clawed back to square the match with a pair of two-point wins of their own (25-23, 25-23).  In the decisive fifth set, the Knights grabbed a quick 4-0 advantage then closed the set on a 5-0 run to post a 15-7 win.

The victory was punctuated by several outstanding individual performances from the Knights.  Ashley Price shattered her career-high in kills with 24 while Bailey Venard bested her career mark (set just yesterday) with 17 kills.  Setter Emily Arnold stuffed the stat sheet with a double-double, going for 51 assists and 22 digs.  Jayme Scott also contributed a double-double with 14 kills and 15 digs.

Final statistics reflect how close the match was with kills being 65-64 in favor of the Hoyas, but the Knights owning a 93-83 edge in digs.

The service game also played an important role in the match.  While Bellarmine made just five errors while recording six aces, Georgetown committed 14 service errors with just four aces.

Bellarmine completes the Virginia tourney with a 2-1 record after yesterday's win over Fairleigh Dickinson and loss to the Cavaliers.  Venard earned all-tournament team recognition along with Bellarmine libero Anna Lococo, who came up with 20 digs today to finish the event with 48.
