CONWAY, Ark. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Central Arkansas in ASUN action on Saturday afternoon at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex.
Central Arkansas (7-1, 2-0 ASUN), which is receiving votes in the national poll, scored once in the first half and another time after the break against Bellarmine (4-3-1, 0-2). It was the first time the Knights conceded more than one goal in regulation time this season.
Winner of three straight games, Central Arkansas got on the board in the 28th minute on a goal by Vicent Abaso. The Bears tacked on another after the intermission when Karim Diao scored in the 58th minute.
Bellarmine had a few dangerous chances early in the second half when the score was knotted at 1-all and a few more after UCA went up 2-0, but Bears goalkeeper Zach Schawl made a pair of diving stops along with a kick save to keep the Knights out of the net. Schawl finished with five saves and tallied his fifth shutout of the season.
Central Arkansas finished with a 14-9 advantage in shots, but they were even at five apiece on frame. Bellarmine had an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
