LOUISVILLE, Ky. — North Florida scored a pair of goals in the second half in notching a 2-0 victory Thursday night over the Bellarmine University women's soccer team in ASUN action at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Shorthanded Bellarmine (2-4-5, 0-3 ASUN) hung tight with ASUN preseason co-favorite UNF (7-2-1, 2-1) for much of the contest before the Ospreys broke though after halftime. The Knights suffered their fourth straight shutout.
Not surprisingly, it was Thais Reiss who busted up the deadlock. The reigning ASUN Player of the Year and the conference's Preseason Player of the Year delivered her seventh goal of the season — one each in seven different games — to put North Florida up 1-0 in the 61st minute.
The Ospreys added an insurance goal in the 85th minute on a nice strike by Vanessa Piermont, her first of the season.
Bellarmine played a solid first half in keeping UNF's opportunities to a minimum. The Ospreys finished with a 9-3 advantage in shots, with seven of those chances coming in the second half. North Florida had a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. The Knights had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Bellarmine will host Jacksonville at 11 a.m. (ET) Sunday in another ASUN contest.
