LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine wrestling will still be on the road Sunday, but will head to a different location. Sunday's originally-scheduled tri-meet at Presbyterian was canceled due to COVID issuese within the Presbyterian program. The Knights will now compete at Campbell in a SoCon dual at 1:00 p.m.
Sunday marks the third day of competition in the last week for Bellarmine after wrestling at the Southern Scuffle last Sunday and NUWAY Combat College Open in downtown Louisville on Thursday.
The Knights were spectacular on the mat all day Thursday, leading the 76-team open with 46 wins and recording the second most pins with 13.
Bellarmine received two first place finishes from
Devan Hendricks (165) and
Eric Beck (174).
Zac Cowan (149),
Sam Schroeder (184), and
Bryant Wilkinson (197) all finished second in their respective weight classes, while
Cole Nance (157) earned third place.
Following Thursday's success for Bellarmine, Hendricks and Nance lead BU with 10 wins this season.
Sunday marks the first SoCon action for Bellarmine since falling to Appalachian State on Dec. 19 at Knights Hall.
Campbell, also originally scheduled to compete at the tri-meet at Presbyterian, was picked to finish second in the SoCon pre-season poll. Thus, the first two SoCon duals for the Knights are against the top two pre-season picks.
The Camels are 3-2 this season, including wins over no. 16 Lehigh and Virginia. Due to several postponements and cancellations, Campbell has not competed in a dual since Nov. 21 in a loss to no. 14 North Carolina. The Camels last took the mat on Dec. 30 in the Matmen Open.
