JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team scored the game-tying goal with less than a minute left to secure a 1-1 draw with North Florida in ASUN action Saturday night in Hodges Stadium.
Freshman defender
Teagan Dunne scored a memorable first career goal for Bellarmine (6-3-3, 2-2-2 ASUN), which extended its Division I-era record unbeaten streak to six with the stalemate against North Florida (2-6-3, 1-2-2). Junior midfielder
Jack Fischer notched his fourth assist of the season against an Ospreys squad that pushed its unbeaten streak to five.
Bellarmine was on the attack trailing 1-0 as the clock ticked under a minute. Freshman midfielder
Cooper Forcellini was able to poke a pass to Fischer near the left sideline. Fischer then made a cross toward the top of the goal box. Dunne was pushing up the middle of the field and met the pass in stride, connecting on a one-touch and slotting a shot inside the right post from 15 yards to equalize the contest with 36 seconds left.
Bellarmine rallied for the draw after finding itself behind in the 72nd minute. North Florida had a cross inside the goalie box deflect just outside the 6, and Rio Onwumere was there to fire a shot into the net for a 1-0 lead.
Bellarmine was relentless in the pursuit of tying it up. From the 80th minute on, the Knights unloaded six shots and were finally rewarded for their perseverance on Dunne's breathtaking goal.
Bellarmine finished with a 14-11 advantage in shots, including 4-3 on frame. The attempts were pretty even in both halves — the Knights had 6-5 and 8-6 edges in the two stanzas. Bellarmine also had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Knights will host Belmont in a nonconference contest at 6:30 p.m. (ET) Wednesday.
