Emily Arnold recorded career assist No. 3,000. Unfortunately for the Knights, that was one of very few highlights as the Sugar Bears swept the match in straight sets 25-21, 25-13, 25-17.
Central Arkansas won battles on both sides of the net, owning large advantages in kills (46-25), blocks (8-3) and digs (41-26). The host team also enjoyed a .375 hitting percentage on the day.
"As a group, I think we know we have to come out with a much better mentality if we want to be successful in the conference," said Bellarmine Coach
Rick Nold. "We are at our best when we are the aggressor, and today, that just didn't happen. We will get back to work make sure we're better next week."
While Central Arkansas had a trio of hitters reach double digit kills (Aliexis Stumbough, 16; Jamiryana Hall and Mackenzie Vernon, 11), Bellarmine's top hitter was
Jayme Scott with seven.
In addition to Arnold's milestone, another bright spot for the Knights was
Emily Ernst, who paced the Bellarmine defense with six digs and led the service game with two aces.
Bellarmine returns to Knights for its next two matches, facing Liberty on Friday at 5 p.m. with ASUN newcomer Queens University of Charlotte visiting Saturday at 2 p.m.
