INDIANAPOLIS—The Bellarmine University women's golf team turned in an up and down performance at the Butler Fall Invitational at Highland Country Club on Monday and Tuesday to finish in 12th place in the 15-team field.
After opening with a 322 team score on the par-70 layout, the Knights shaved 12 shots off that to climb into sixth place after 36 holes. However, it was back down again for the Knights as a final round 325 dropped them six spots into 12th place.
Individually,
Alaina Schmitt led the way for Bellarmine, securing a top 15 finish after rounds of 78, 75 and 78 for an aggregate score of 231, which tied for 14th in the 93-player field.
Fellow ASUN Conference team Austin Peay won the event, posting rounds of 301, 310 and 289 to finish 16 strokes ahead of runner-up Youngstown State. The Governors of Austin Peay also boasted the tourney's medalist with Taylor Dedman claiming the title after shooting 217 (73, 75, and 69).
The Knights return to action on Oct. 17 when they'll be in Birmingham, Michigan for the 54-hole Chippewa Invitational hosted by Central Michigan.
