NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In the regular-season finale, the Bellarmine University men's soccer team fell 1-0 to 12th-ranked Lipscomb in ASUN action on Tuesday night at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
Bellarmine (6-4-6, 2-3-3 ASUN) saw its Division I-era program-record unbeaten streak snapped at nine by Lipscomb (12-2-2, 7-1), which is the top seed and reigning champion of the ASUN Tournament.
Bellarmine is the six-seed in the conference tournament. The Knights will meet three-seed Stetson in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. (ET) Saturday at host Central Arkansas.
Senior goalkeeper
Matthew Brozovich piled up eight saves against Lipscomb. Among those, he smothered a penalty kick in the 10th minute and knocked away a 1v1 breakaway in the second half.
Ploutarchos Alonefti's third goal of the season stood as the game-winner for Lipscomb. In the 16th minute, Bellarmine's defense poked away a cross in the box, but it deflected to an open Alonefti, who made good on an easy chance from 8 yards.
That would be the totality of the match's scoring. Lipscomb finished with a 16-7 advantage in shots, including 9-4 on frame. The Bisons held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
