Knights honor six players on senior day but drop match to Liberty

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine volleyball team closed out the 2022 season with a 0-3 loss (21-25, 17-25, 7-25) to ASUN Conference regular season champion Liberty University on Sunday afternoon in Knights Hall.

Prior to the match, Bellarmine honored six senior players who made their final appearances at Knights Hall:  Emily Arnold, Hannah Brown, Sydney Colvin, Emily Ernst, Carissa Reyes and Jayme Scott.  All six seniors leave Bellarmine having earned academic accolades from the ASUN Conference with Brown, Colvin, Ernst, and Scott also being recognized by the Great Lakes Valley Conference prior to Bellarmine rising to Division I.

"I'm really proud of the way this team battled all season," said Bellarmine Coach Rick Nold.  "We would have loved to win more games, but we have grown and built a culture that will impact his program for years to come.  I'm so appreciative of these six seniors and can't wait to see them flourish in their lives after volleyball."

In today's match, the visiting Flames were flaming hot on the offensive end, swinging at a .364 clip for the match while limiting the Knights to just .033.  The visitors enjoyed advantages in all categories of the statistics including a 42-23 edge in kills and an 11-1 superiority in blocks.

Individually, Kate Phillips was the kills leader for Liberty with 10 while Madison Blane recorded six blocks on the day.  For Bellarmine, Bailey Venard chalked up six kills while Ernst notched three service aces.

With the victory, Liberty moves to 21-7 overall and locks down the ASUN regular season crown by finishing 14-2 in league play.

The Knights end the season 10-18, 4-12 ASUN, a record that shows improvements in both overall and conference wins from last season.
