Knights head to Sunshine State for matches with Stetson, FGCU

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine volleyball team returns to action this Friday and Saturday with ASUN Conference road games in the Sunshine State, facing Stetson in DeLand, Florida before taking on FGCU in Ft. Myers on Saturday. Both matches have 6 p.m. start times.
 
Bellarmine (10-14, 4-8 ASUN) is still in contention for one of the eight ASUN Conference Championship Tournament spots as they enter the weekend in a three-way tie for ninth in the league standings with four matches yet to play.
 
Senior outside hitter Jayme Scott continues to lead the league in kills with an average of 4.17 kills per set, and she's second in overall kills with 338.  Bellarmine's other stats leaders include Anna Lococo (4.2 digs/set), Jayda Harris (0.70 blocks/set), Emily Arnold (9.48 assists/set), and Tessa Nauert (0.30 service aces/set).
 
Stetson enters the weekend tied with Bellarmine (and Austin Peay) at 4-8 in the league standings.  The Hatters are 13-11 overall, and they are paced offensively by Elena Djokovic and Anabelle Standish, who average 2.84 and 2.67 kills per set respectively.  The primary setter is Nyah Molina, who dishes out 7.47 assists per set.  Defensively, Sophia Groom comes in as the top blocker with a 0.78 average per set. The Hatters share back line responsibilities pretty evenly with Molina and Madilyn Jerald each averaging 2.96 digs per set.  Djokovic and Standish also help on the back row, averaging 2.82 and 2.59 digs.
 
The Eagles of FGCU enter weekend play in a four-way log jam for second place in the ASUN standings at 9-3.  With a 19-6 overall mark, FGCU trails only Jacksonville State for most match victories by an ASUN team this year.   FGCU features a potent offense that ranks second in the league with a .258 attack percentage and a service game that ranks second in aces per set (1.82).
 
Individually, several Eagles rank among the league's top players.  Outside Hitter Erin Shomaker recently overtook BU's Scott for first place in total kills with 347, and she ranks third in kills per set with a 3.9 average.  Setter Chelsey Lockey ranks second in the ASUN in assists with an average of 10.84 per set, and Libero Dana Axner is fourth in the conference with a 4.64 digs per set average.
