FLORENCE, Ala. — North Alabama heated up from the perimeter in the third quarter Saturday in distancing itself from the Bellarmine University women's basketball team on the way to an 81-59 win over the Knights in ASUN action in Flowers Hall.
Sophomore guard
Mackenzie Keelin nearly posted her third double-double in the last four games for Bellarmine (3-20, 0-12 ASUN), racking up a game-high 19 points along with eight rebounds. Keelin went 7-for-9 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, against North Alabama (10-13, 5-6), which swept the season series against the Knights.
Senior guard
Kathleen Scott tallied 10 points, five assists and three steals for Bellarmine, while senior guard
Presley Brown hauled in seven rebounds. Five different players scored in double figures for UNA, led by 17 points from Julia Strachan. Skyler Gill ripped down 17 rebounds.
Bellarmine was in a good spot at halftime. The Knights trailed 17-12 after one quarter and 40-35 at the break. Bellarmine drained six of its nine attempts from beyond the arc in the first half, including a 4-for-4 effort from Keelin. The Knights made timely 3s when it looked like the Lions might build a comfortable cushion.
Unfortunately, after going 5-for-16 from 3-point land in the first half, North Alabama stroked six of its 12 attempts from deep in the third quarter. The Lions outscored the Knights 22-14 in the frame to take a 62-49 advantage into the fourth.
Once there, North Alabama opened the scoring and Bellarmine never got closer than 14 in the final period. The Lions registered 41 points to the 24 of the Knights in the second half. UNA sank 13 3-pointers for the game, with five coming from Strachan.
Bellarmine will play at 8 p.m. (ET) Thursday at Central Arkansas.
