LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Liberty never trailed in defeating the Bellarmine University women's basketball team 77-52 in ASUN action Thursday in Freedom Hall.
Sophomore guard
Mackenzie Keelin tallied 14 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in posting the first double-double of her career for Bellarmine (3-17, 0-9 ASUN). She nailed four of her seven 3-point attempts.
Junior guard
Jaela Johnson notched 13 points and six assists against Liberty (20-2, 8-1), while senior guard
Kathleen Scott registered four steals and three assists and sophomore forward
Lucy Robertson pulled down seven rebounds.
The ASUN's leading defensive and rebounding unit, Liberty limited Bellarmine to 31.3 percent shooting and used its overwhelming size to win the battle of the boards 54-29, 16 of which were offensive rebounds. Mya Berkman paced the Lady Flames with 18 points and Jordan Bailey added 17.
Liberty led 24-12 after the first quarter and 37-20 at halftime. The Lady Flames then shot 57.7 percent in the second half en route to the victory. They hit 17-of-23 free throws for the game. Berkman led the way by sinking 6-of-8 from the floor and all six of her attempts from the charity stripe.
Bellarmine will host Kennesaw State at 2 p.m. (ET) Saturday in Freedom Hall.
