Men's tennis beats Campbellsville, wins third straight match

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The weekend did not turn out to be as busy as expected for Bellarmine men's tennis, but the wait was worth it for Knights, winning their third straight match.

After scheduled matches against Northern Kentucky (winter weather) and Centre (health and safety protocols) were canceled, Bellarmine defeated Campbellsville 6-1 at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Bellarmine took care of business in doubles, sweeping the Tigers handily.  Cole Groetsch and Jack Batchelor wrangled a 6-1 victory in the no. 1 slot, while Paul Reynolds and Donovan Ecarma were victorious 6-2 at no. 2 doubles.  Emil B. Berglund and Joseph Naville also earned a win playing no. 3 doubles.

In singles action, BU took five of the six matches.  Groetsch bested Jan Stolin at no. 1 (2-6, 6-4, 6-4), while Reynolds defeated Hernan Toledo (6-3, 7-5) playing no. 2 singles.  Batchelor won at no. 3 singles against Nicolas Andrade (6-0, 6-0), and Berglund topped Matus Sevcik in the no. 4 position (6-3, 3-6, 10-5).  The other singles win came from Donovan Ecarma over Mario Sanchez at no. 5 (6-1, 6-1).

In Bellarmine's three straight wins, the Knights have taken every doubles match and won all but two singles matches.  After a two-week break, BU hits the road for over a month starting with IUPUI on Friday, Feb. 18 in Indianapolis.
