LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Bellarmine women's tennis team took on the other power-five opponent in the state on Friday evening, traveling to Lexington for a matchup with Kentucky Wildcats.
Bellarmine fell by a final score of 7-0 in its first match since February 26
th. In a different environment than they have experienced so far this season, the Knights played outside in 45 degree temperatures with 20mph wind gusts. Weather was what postponed Bellarmine's initial match with UK in January and played a factor again in March.
Despite no wins for the Knights,
Rose Pastoret was competitive in her two matches. Pastoret was down 6-4, 4-0 but did not finish her singles match. In doubles, Pastoret and
Ashley Jonathan trailed Carla Girbau and Ellie Eades just 4-3 when their match was concluded early as well.
Kentucky swept the other two doubles matches 6-0 and handled it singles battles in similar fashion. The Wildcats moved to 12-4 on the season after a 4-3 loss to Missouri earlier in the day.
"It was a tough result today," Knights Head Coach
Brian Slack said. "We came out and competed. The conditions were tough, and we haven't experienced those this season. We will grow from the experience today and get better. We will get back at it tomorrow against a Cincinnati team that is playing at a high level."
BU faces Cincinnati on the road tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
